But the film could not even recover its 200 crore budget, bombing at the box office and facing widespread critical bashing. Reuniting the Shahrukh Khan- Katrina Kaif- Anushka Sharma trio, the 2018 film Zero has been the Bollywood Badshah’s most expensive film till date. With Ajay Devgn and Kajol in the lead in the film that also starred Rishi Kapoor, Raju Chacha was a glossy visual that could not however translate much into substantial numbers. Produced at a budget of ₹30.6 crore, the film could barely manage some ₹8.6 crores in collections. However going by box office numbers, the film was an out and out flop. Raju ChachaĪjay Devgn’s first venture into production, the 2000 film Raju Chacha might be still among the mediocrely popular of Bollywood movies. In fact Saawariya had to settle on becoming one of the greatest flop movies of Bollywood. But despite such elaborate presentation and equally massive publicity, the 2007 romantic saga failed to create much of an impact.
Remniscient of the trademark Sanjay Leela Bhansali larger than life portrayal through cinema, Saawariya was shot on elaborate sets of an imaginary city complete with lakes, streets, shops, signages and a clock tower. Saawariya was the film that marked the much anticipated debut of two starkids- Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. In being an entirely unwatchable senseless film, Himmatwala has very well been the outright flop movies of Bollywood. Lambasted by critics for such a horrible attempt at recreating what was a popular 80’s movie, Himmatwala was even defined a tacky experience at best. Made with a budget of 680 million, the film also starring Ajay Devgn collected just 65.79 crores at the box office. A remake of another remake, Himmatwala marked the Bollywood comeback for southern star Tamannaah. One of the greatest flop movies in present day Bollywood has to be the 2013 film Himmatwala. Nevertheless in being a far less spectacular outing than what was conceived out of it, Ra.One has to be one of the greater flop movies of Bollywood. Technically however, Ra.One came to be lauded even when some believed that the visual effects were ‘all over the place’. One wasn’t even half the phenomenon it set out to be.
With mainly negative reviews spanning from plot to direction to screenplay Ra. But most of the collections amassed by this ambitious venture was the result of skilfully thought out strategies rather than the applause of being a true hit film. Also preceded by high audience and commercial expectations, Ra.One sure managed to collect the revenue. A 2011 superhero film starring Khan, Ra.One witnessed the largest international theatrical release for an Indian film at that time. Then, the actor takes the audience into a flashback of how he fell in love with them at different stages of his life but being merely a circus joker, unworthy, as it were, of these women, his love stories always fell apart.Ra.One might have been Shah Rukh Khan‘s most ambitious project but it still is one of the absolute flop movies ever in Bollywood. The film begins with the song Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan in which Raj Kapoor invites all the three women who shaped his life to watch his last performance at the circus. Mera Naam Joker was based on the life of a circus performer, played by Kapoor, who makes his audience laugh at the cost of his own sorrows. But unlike Sangam, Mera Naam Joker tanked at the box office and also failed to impress critics at the time. In fact, Mera Naam Joker had an even longer runtime of 4 hours 15 minutes. While Sangam became the first Hindi film with two intervals, Mera Naam Joker followed the same path. Mera Naam Joker released in 1970, six years after the release of Sangam. Iss khel mein hum ho naa ho, gardish mein taare rahenge sada! Remember this line? For those who are still scratching their heads, it is from another one of Raj Kapoor’s masterpieces, Mera Naam Joker.
